ABOUT THIS EVENT
The spotlight hums to life, the stars enter the ring, and all the devils come out to play.The circus has always been kind of a contentious topic. Some people love it. Others, not so much. And further still are those who run in terror. What tries to be an occasion of fun and entertainment can strike horror into the hearts of its audience, whether it's from death-defying stunts, the (potentially unethical) use of live, wild predators, or those jollymakers in white face paint. (Even more so for those fortunate enough - or unfortunate - to have seen the Continental Circus in its earlier years!) Still, as we invite you into our playhouse, we remind you that fear and arousal aren't so different -- and by time we reach the curtain call, you may not be able to tell them apart at all.While there are no noncon scenes in this event in compliance with XIV's guidelines regarding roleplay, please anticipate songs to touch on interpersonal violence and sexual content. Additional warnings will be provided at show time. Please heed any warnings in interest of your own well-being. Players with severe coulrophobia may want to sit this one out.
WHAT IS BURLESQUE?
If you've never been to a burlesque before:A burlesque is, historically and as best described by Wikipedia, "a literary, dramatic or musical work intended to cause laughter by caricaturing the manner or spirit of serious works, or by ludicrous treatment of their subjects." Naturally, there's a lot of overlap with drag, especially when looking at the popularity of travesty roles - roles that were performed by the "opposite" sex of the character.Like many art forms, burlesque has evolved through the years, and it now has a larger focus on the striptease portion. In the modern era, these are usually (but not always!) theme-focused stripteases -- someone dressing up as mouth, another based on a popular show -- but there are more now that are meant to be sensual. Pole dancing can be incorporated at some burlesques, but it isn't explicitly burlesque. It's also entirely possible and not the littlest bit taboo to put on a burlesque show and not striptease at all.The most famous examples you'll probably know either from their bodies of work or from multiple pop culture references throughout the years are: Dita Von Tease, Bettie Page (who primarily performed in filmed burlesque revues), and the Chippendale Dancers, who are male burlesque performers.

We do not allow hate speech of any kind, whether it's IC or OOC.
All participants and their characters must be 21 years of age or older, regardless of age of consent in their country. Anyone found breaking this rule will be removed from the event and barred from future events going forward.
Patrons must remain clothed at all times -- patrons can be lightly costumed or dress like they would for the circus.
As this is a NSFW event, explicit conversation is permitted, but we ask that you don't perform any explicit acts. I promise you, the blowjob can wait.
While we will not have a wi-fi code of any kind, we encourage you to share your outfits with the #BITN26fitcheck hashtag! You can use art, gposes, or even photo collages. AI works will not be reposted. Similarly, as we've asked our performers to avoid orientalist or othering depictions of different cultures, we discourage these kinds of costumes in the tag.
Please note this is a roleplay event. Keep OOC chatter in public channels to a minimum, and keep yell and shout clear during the event.
